And being in agony He was praying very fervently;
and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.

The pure life of Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection -the key to our salvation
Jesus i totally pure and innocent. He is the son of God. Yet he was accused for being a criminal and sentenced to death. He was whipped bloody, tortured, hated, scorned, beaten, thrown to the ground, he was forced to carry his own cross, they put a crown of thorny thistles on his head. They nailed his hands and feets to the cross and let him hang there until he died. They also pierced his side with a spear.
Jesus knew all these things would happen to him. In Gethsemane he was in great agony and pain, so hard that he was sweating blood. Can you imagine such agony? Three days later he rose from the dead. Jesus lives today.

Pictures on Jesus's being tortured (bloody pictures, sensitive people are warned)
Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies Jesus suffers and dies

Salvation was never for free.
It costed Jesus his life.

Jesus Christ - The Messiah took the punishment for our sins to set us free.
Before God all human beings are guilty of sin, except Jesus. If we become friends with Jesus and have him as our Lord, if we think of him as the son of God and confess to Him and do our best to obey Him so we are redeemed from the judgment of God on Judgement Day. Jesus suffering, death and resurrection erases the sins of those who believe in him.
We will unfortunately fail to obey Him completely. We may not be exactly as perfect as Jesus, we sin. Jesus forgives you when you sin if you ask him for forgiveness. He looks at our heart. He loves us. But if you love the sin in your life more than you actually love Jesus he sees even that.
But he said he did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

We are not saved through our own righteousness but through a friendship with Jesus
When we have Jesus as a model and try to live by His commandments, when we believe in him, obey Him and get saved, so we will not be saved because of our own righteousness. Absolutely not. Our own righteousness is like a dirty old rag before God (because God himself is 100% pure holy and spotless) and it is not good enough for salvation. No, that we are saved is because Jesus's righteousness and love. If he sees that we have him as Lord, that we are his friends then we may partake of His righteousness. But if we persist in sin straight life through and never ask for forgiveness and repent, if sinfulness is the only thing we live for then we are not friends with Jesus. Then we are doomed to eternal punishment by God.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:23

As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
Romans 3:10

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

How deep was Jesus's pain?
The Bible teaches that Jesus's died in our place. So that we should be able to escape the judgment of God and God's wrath. To escape eternal punishment and instead gain eternal salvation and live with God in paradise forever.
So when Jesus hanged on the cross, God also treated him in a very painful way.

My God my God why have you abandoned me?
Some words I heard on a preaching was something like this: Jesus was being punished as a "deputy" for us. He took the ultimate physical pain one can imagine, whipped bloody, abandoned by his disciples, nailed to the cross, people spat at him. He was crucified and killed.
But there were probably deeper levels of pain that Jesus experienced on the cross. The punishment would pay for all sins of humanity, all murder, robbery, whoredom, sexual immorality, impurity etc. The punishment must be ultimate. Therefore, when Jesus was hanging there God focused all anger, guilt and contempt of all sins in the world on him. In the spritual world, just before Jesus died God treated him as a disgusting criminal and he turned away his face from him. He forsook him and left him to die totally alone. This was the ultimate punishment and the ultimate suffering. Jesus felt how God rejected him and that's why he cried in pain: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Then he was given vinegar to drink. After this he said: "it's finished." and then he died.

Can you imagine, Jesus hanging there bloody on the cross, and as if this was not enough, he feels how God rejects him? What a dark feeling. Totally black.

About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?").
Matthew 27:46

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 19-30

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split
Matthew 27:51

And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Mark 15-33

That the curtain of the temple was broken means that we all now can come in to the most holy before God. Jesus opened the way.

Tear down this temple and I will rebuild it in three days
Jesus said this several days before his crucifiction as a proof of that he knew that he would be killed. After three days he resurrected from the death and this is wonderful! Jesus is risen!!

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
John 1:9

Jesus lived a totally perfect life and he never sinned or made a mistake. He defeated sin, satan, death and darkness. He was loving kindness all through.
He had the mission from God to suffer for our sins, to die and to resurrect. Doing this he has the position and authority to forgive crimes and sins. Because he was a victim of crime himself.
He invites us all to have our sins forgiven if we confess him as our lord and savior and honestly try to live according to his words, if we love him.
He also promises eternal life in paradise with him and God. These are really good news. Your sins can be forgiven and you can have eternal life in paradise.

Jesus suffered a horrible punishment, sweating blood, whipped, scorned, tortured, nailed to a cross. He wouldn't have done it if this was not absolutely necessary.

There is a movement within christianity that rejects Jesus's death on the cross and denies its purpose.
It feels like many churches are preparing to become members of new world system, aka the NEW WORLD ORDER, leaving Jesus's salvation in favour for the new age. Sick.

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
Matthew 26:39

He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
Matthew 26:42

Prayer for forgiveness
Confession and prayer for forgiveness
(All) I confess to you, holy God,
That I often and in many ways
have sinned in thought, word and deeds.
Think of me in mercy
And forgive me for Jesus Christ's sake
what I've broken.
(Priest) Lord, hear now every heart's quiet confession: ...(pause)
(All) Jesus, Son of God, his blood cleanses us from all sin.
I trust in this and want to receive the forgiveness of Jesus Christ's sake.

Jesus, Son of God, his blood cleanses us from all sin.
I trust in this and want to receive the forgiveness of Jesus Christ's sake.
