The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, you son of David, don't be afraid to make Mary your wife,: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took to him his wife:
And he did not sleep with her until she gave birth to her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for this it is written by the prophet,
And you Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, are not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of you shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, se, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was extremely angered, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
And saying, Repent you all: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Then Jerusalem went out to him , and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
I indeed baptize you with water to repentance. but he that comes after me is mightier than me, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
Then Jesus from Galilee came to Jordan to John, to be baptized of him.
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and you come to me?
Jesus answered and said to him, "Let it be so now; for it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he allowed him that.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and see, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
And a voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.
When he had gone away a little farther, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kind of disease among the people.
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought to him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came to him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets which were before you.
Don't think that I have come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I have not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
You have heard that it was said of them of old time, you shall not kill; and whosoever kills shall be in danger of the judgment:
But I say to you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever says to his brother, your waster, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever says, Your fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there rememberer that your brother has ought against you;
Leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
You have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultery:
But I say to you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
And if your right eye offends you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for your that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.
And if your right hand offends you, cut it off, and cast it from your: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.
It has been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
But I say to you, That whosoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever marries a divorced woman committs adultery.
You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away yor coat, let him have your cloak also.
And whosoever compels you to go a mile, go two with him.
Give to him that asks you, and don't turn away from him that wants to borrow of you.
You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love them which love you, what reward do you have? do not even the publicans do the same?
And if you salute your brothers only, what do you more than others? do not even the publicans do so?
Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say to you, They have their reward.
But when you do alms, don't let your left hand know what your right hand does:
That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.
And when thou pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you has shut your door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.
After this manner you should pray: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light.
But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bear its own troubles. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
